Academic Senate Meeting Agenda Requests

If you would like to request space on an agenda, email the Academic Senate Council with the following information by the date listed in the first column of table below for each upcoming SP25 Academic Senate meeting.

  1. Title of your request
  2. Name or names of the person (or people) leading the item
  3. Which 10+1 item your request falls under (the Council will review and determine as needed)
  4. Which of the following your item request the item be identified as:
    • a) Committee Update (made by an Academic Senate confirmed faculty member serving on the committee and has a five minute maximum time allowance)
    • b) College Administration Update (made by a manager and has a five minute maximum time allowance)
    • c) First Reading or Second Reading
      • First Reading: The first reading of an item is meant for questions, clarifications, suggestions for improvement or for voicing major objections. The first reading provides time between the first discussion of the item and subsequent voting, so that Senators can confer with their constituencies. Typically, no motions can be offered on a first reading, except to waive the first reading or refer the item back to the maker (Council can determine outcome that alters this - e.g., PA). It is possible to move to waive the first reading. This requires a second and can be debated. It takes a majority vote. Usually the first reading is waived only for time sensitive materials and is used primarily for resolutions. Typically, policy changes as first reads are not waived.
      • Second Reading: At the second reading of an item that is returning after having been reviewed on a previous agenda as a first read item, and that has been conferred about by Senate Representatives' constituencies, all appropriate amendments can be offered and voting can take place.
    • d) Discussion item: These are informational items that are brought forward for the knowledge of the faculty, to support increased understanding, and to enable questioning and clarifying of said information through discussion.  These are non-voting items.
    • The Senate Council will assign the appropriate "outcome" for each  request: Information (I) , Discussion (D), and/or Action  (A) [and potentially, Possible Action (PA)].
  5. The amount of time being requested (time frames are welcomed)
  6. The time slot being requested (no guarantees can be made but you can let us know)

*Please make sure to also include or be prepared to provide any and all supporting documents related to your agenda request for inclusion in the meeting packet.*
