Placement Process

Placement is one of the most important steps in the enrollment process. At Los Medanos College, we want to help you succeed, and part of your success as a college student depends on enrolling in courses that are right for you.

After applying to LMC and completing the online orientation, complete the placement process to get recommendations for your first-term Math,  English or ESL classes.

English Placement

As an LMC student, you have the opportunity to enroll in a transfer-level English course regardless of past experiences with English.  However, before students can register, it is required to complete the online self guided assessment to provide the student with a recommended course placement.

LMC Transfer-level English:

English 100 – College Composition (3 units) English 100 is an introductory college-level course designed to help students develop critical reading, thinking and writing skills. This course is offered face-to-face, fully online, or hybrid.

English 100E- Enhanced College Composition (4 units) English 100E is an introductory college-level course designed to develop critical reading, thinking and writing skills while enhancing students' validation, encouragement, skills practice, time with their thoughts, reading and writing practice, and with guidance from the instructor. This course is offered face-to-face, fully online, or hybrid. Only 3 units transfer to UC. Please note that only 3 of the 4 units are UC transferrable.
