    "Shaping Change for Basic Needs: Lessons for Healing, Re-Imagining, and Transformation"

    Ruben is a first-generation alumnus of UC Berkeley who now serves as Director of Equity Initiatives within UC Berkeley’s Division of Equity & Inclusion. His responsibilities include college basic needs, strategic planning, and mobilization. Ruben was appointed to the dual roles of Chair of the UC Berkeley Basic Needs Committee (2013) and Co-Chair of the UC Systemwide Basic Needs Committee (2014). These efforts focus on research, prevention, sustainability, and advocacy. His efforts have published studies on college student food insecurity and homelessness in higher education and have helped inform both state and federal policies

This training will help you identify types of trauma, understand the impact of exposure to trauma and explore ways to build resilience through self-care.

Are you interested in developing your leadership skills while meeting new people and helping plan exciting campus events? If so, apply to become a Student Life Associate. Student Life Associates have the opportunity to express their passion for leadership development and school spirit through opportunities that support students in becoming agents of positive social change. Student Life Associates commit to working a year-long schedule including trainings/meetings, regular office hours each week, and additional hours for scheduled events/activities.
