What documents will I need to apply to LMC?
You will need the following to complete the LMC International Student Application:
1) You must complete the LMC Student Application in order to obtain your personalized student identification number.
2) Demonstration of English proficiency document
3) Financial Verification document from banking institution equal to $23,000.00 US currency
*Note you will also need a valid credit card to apply the $50.00 non-refundable processing fee.

Fall 2020 Questions During COVID/Remote Learning
Will LMC issue I-20s for Fall 2020?
As instruction will be offered remotely, we will not be issuing I-20s for individuals currently outside of the United States.
I have been admitted for Fall 2020. Do I need to apply for an F1 Visa for online courses completed outside of the United States?
No. You only need to apply for an F1 Visa for studies within the United States.
What if I was provided an I-20 but unable to obtain a visa appointment before the fall 2020 term begins?
Students who were provided an I-20 for Fall 2020 who are currently outside of the United States, should remain in their home country and, therefore, do not need a student visa.
May I defer my enrollment until Spring 2021?
Yes. An updated I-20 will be issued with a new program start date.
If I defer to Spring 2021, do I need to pay the I-20 mailing fee again?
No. You only pay one I-20 mailing fee.
If I defer to Spring 2021, do I need to pay the SEVIS fee again? No.
If I defer to Spring 2021, do I need to provide updated financial verification documents?
Updated financial verification documents may be requested and should be updated for your visa appointment.
If I was issued an F1 Visa for fall 2020, do I need a new visa if I defer until Spring 2021?
Please check the visa expiration date on your visa. You do not need a new visa if your current visa is valid past the date of entry into the United States.
Will courses taken remotely be asynchronous (time zone difference)?
Each course has its own schedule. Student should check schedule of classes or consult with instructor to determine if course(s) are managed asynchronously. Synchronous instruction would be offered Pacific Standard (California) Time.
How do I register for courses?
Registration into courses is done through your Insite Portal from your home country. Check your "REGISTRATION" tile for your date and time. You may not register before your assigned registration. You may register for classes up til August 23 at midnight.
Will I be required to attend full time (12 units) if I am outside of the United States?
Students who are on F1 visa status must maintain a full time unit load of 12 or more units. Students who will be studying from home (not on visa status) may take fewer units.
When do I have to pay my tuition?
Students should pay tuition as soon as possible. However, if they need to pay installments or wait to pay, they will not be charged late fees. Students with a balance at the end of the semester, will have a hold placed on their account until the balance is paid.
Will an orientation be offered by LMC?
An online orientation will be provided to incoming international students admitted for fall 2020.
What courses do I need to take for my major?
Your major will determine what courses you will need to take. Review degree requirements in the catalog and with a counselor in the development of your educational plan to avoid taking unnecessary classes and delaying your graduation or transfer plans. Visit the online catalog.
Do I need to take an English Proficiency Test to be admitted into LMC?
Students must have a certain level of English proficiency to be successful at LMC. Prospective students whose first language is not English must demonstrate English Language Proficiency by one of the following for admission into Los Medanos College:

General Education Development Test (GED)
Applicants who pass a U.S. equivalent GED meet the high school graduation equivalency requirement for international student admission to Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College.
For applicants from IGCSE or O Level school curricula, will LMC accept results after July 15th?
Yes. Students who submit required application with supporting financial verification documents by July 15th deadline can submit results by August 15th. In addition, we will also accept the online results. Once official results are released, student must submit the document to the International Student's Program.
For applicants with IB Diploma Programme (DP) schools, who will not be 18 by the start of classes, will LMC accept a final transcript along with a letter from the school stating that the student has met the graduation requirements (given the DP exams have been cancelled)? Yes.

How much does it cost to attend LMC as an International Student?
International students must submit documentation indicating ability to cover all expenses for at least one year, which includes tuition, fees, related academic costs, books, living expenses, transportation and miscellaneous expenditures, for themselves and any dependents.

FALL 2020: Financial Verification is not needed for new students who will be enrolled in online courses from outside of the United States. Financial support evidence will be required, however, in order to be issued an I-20 and obtain an F1 Visa for on-campus, in person instruction Spring 2021. We will communicate with you about this process. If you are transferring from an institution within the United States, please contact your current institution regarding your transfer plans and maintaining F1 Visa status.

- Do I need to purchase health insurance from the college if I have my own health insurance?Yes. There is a MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE FEE associated with attending Los Medanos College. We know that the health care system in the United States may be very different from what you are used to; therefore, we are available to answer any questions that you may have. - How early can I enter into the United States?Students who have been issued an F-1 visa are eligible to enter the United States up to thirty (30) days before the “reporting date” on the I-20 form, but not earlier. While the issuance of an F-1 visa gives you permission to request entry to the U.S. during that thirty-day period, the visa itself does not guarantee entry to the United States.
- How do I obtain my I-20?
The SEVIS generated I-20 Form is the official document required to apply for a United States F-1 Student Visa. This document is processed and issued by LMC Admissions and Records in compliance with terms set forth by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Once issued a SEVIS I-20, it is your responsibility to contact an embassy in your home country in order to apply for F-1 visa status.
- You must be fully admitted to the college as a full time student and have demonstrated having English proficiency.
- You must submit a completed Financial Statement verifying sufficient funding for at
least one year of expenses at LMC.
- If you already hold a valid F1 Visa from another school and plan to transfer to LMC you must also complete and return the I-20 transfer release form along with a photocopy of your current I-20 form.
- Do you offer on campus housing?
LMC currently does not offer on campus housing to students. If you are in need of housing, we recommend that you contact our preferred partner Diablo Valley Homestay. You may begin the process of applying to live host family by completing the Diablo Valley Homestay Application.
- Can I apply for financial aid?
Need-based financial aid is not available for international students. We recommend that international students research scholarship opportunities that may be available to international students.
