The Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) has announced the selection Los Medanos College’s (LMC) Lawrence Punsalang as the 2025 4CD Classified Employee of the Year. Lawrence was also the recipient of the first Annual LMC President’s Classified Professional Exemplary Leadership & Service Award.

Lawrence works at LMC as a Program Coordinator in Outreach & Welcome Services, serves as Caring Campus Co-Chair, served as a member of the Classified Senate Council, and actively participates in the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community.

Known for his positive attitude, resourcefulness, and genuine care for others, Lawrence approaches his work with a deep sense of responsibility and dedication. His enthusiasm and problem-solving skills make him a trusted resource for both students and staff.

LMC President Dr. Pamela Ralston shared, “Lawrence has exemplified the best of our amazing classified professional staff at Los Medanos College. His work on the outreach team is stellar, and his leadership there is a source of strength and mentorship. He was an early proponent, supporter, and leader of the college’s Caring Campus Campaign, which has ensured that students experience the college as a friendly, welcoming place. Los Medanos College is a better place because of Lawrence.”

“This award reflects the hard work that we as Classified Professionals do. We do our best to empower and transform our students and community, and it feels amazing to be recognized for those efforts” said Punsalang.

Lawrence, who has worked at LMC since 2013, was nominated by the 4CD Classified Senate Coordinating Council and will now be considered for the statewide California Community Colleges “Classified Employee of the Year” Award. Statewide award winners are selected by representatives of the Community Colleges’ Board of Governors, Chancellor’s Office and the Foundation for California Community Colleges. The nominees are evaluated on their commitment to Vision 2030: A Roadmap for California Community Colleges, and equitable student outcomes; professional ethics and standards; serving the institution’s diverse student population through participation in professional and/or community activities; and serving as a leader beyond their location institution.

Recipients will be announced and honored at the May 20 meeting of the Board of Governors.
