Changes to Transfer GE and Common Course Numbering

Changes to Transfer General Education

As a result of AB928, California Community Colleges are transitioning to a single general education pattern for transfer, called the California General Education for Transfer Curriculum (Cal GETC).

See more information regarding who will be following Cal GETC for their transfer general education. If you have questions about which general education model to follow, contact LMC’s Counseling Department.

Cal-GETC applies to the following:

Cal-GETC is NOT required for:

  • New students enrolling Fall 2025 and forward
  • Students coming from UC or other institutions without Title 5 catalog rights
  • Students who are continuously enrolled prior to Fall 2025, but elect to follow Cal-GETC
  • Students with continuous enrollment prior to Fall 2025
  • Students who have already completed ADT with CSU-GE or IGETC

Common Course Numbering

Changes Effective Fall 2026

As a result of AB 1111, California Community Colleges are in Phase IIA of 3 in adopting a common course numbering system for all general education and transfer pathway courses. The purpose of the Common Course Numbering (CCN) system is to ensure that comparable courses across all community colleges have the same course number. The goal is to streamline the transfer process from California Community Colleges to four-year postsecondary educational institutions and reduce excess credit accumulation.

The chart below provides a list of courses with new names and numbers, effective Fall 2026.

  • The content of the courses have not changed, nor have the transfer requirements they meet.
  • If you have taken the course with its previous name, you do not need to take it again.

We encourage you to speak with the Counseling Department if you have any further questions.
