The Center for Academic Support (CAS) at Los Medanos College provides students with the resources, guidance, and encouragement needed to achieve their academic goals. Through tutoring, learning support services, and skill-building opportunities, CAS helps students strengthen their understanding of course material, build confidence, and develop effective learning strategies.
Whether you need help with a specific assignment or ongoing academic support, CAS provides reading and writing consultations and peer tutoring through flexible drop-in and appointment options.

Reading & Writing (R/W) Faculty Consultations
R/W faculty consultants guide students through idea development, organization, and revision strategies, helping them build effective writing practices and greater confidence as learners.
Reading and Writing consultations are supported by LMC English faculty and overseen by the Reading/Writing (R/W) Faculty Coordinator.
Meet the R/W Faculty Consultants
Supervised Tutoring (SPTUT) is a free, non-credit course that provides students access to faculty consultant services. Students must enroll in SPTUT-020 via Canvas before their first consultation . Registration is quick, free, and has no prerequisites.

At the Center for Academic Support (CAS) we offer R/W faculty consultations though appointment (in-person and online) and email.
Peer Tutoring
Peer tutors are Los Medanos College students who are carefully selected, hired, and trained through the Center for Academic Support (CAS).
Peer tutors provide supportive, student-centered guidance to help fellow students strengthen their understanding of course material and develop effective learning strategies.
CAS currently offers tutoring support in approximately 80% of the subject areas taught at LMC and employs three types of tutors:
- Embedded Course Tutors
- Subject-Specific Tutors
- General Tutors
