Transfer within 3 Years (SEP Metric)

Data Vista Metric Definition:  Cohort Students Who Transferred to a Four-Year Postsecondary Institution (with denominator used for SEP).  Among students in the cohort who earned 12 or more units at any time and at any college and who exited the community college system in the selected year, the number of cohort students who enrolled in any four-year postsecondary institution in the subsequent year or 3 years after for 2 year cohort, 4 years after for 3 year cohort, 5 years after for 4 year cohort and 7 years after for 6 year cohort

  The multi-series line chart compares the percentage of students who transferred within three years for all students, Black/African American students, First Generation students, male students, and the benchmark for the top five Bay Area colleges from 2015–16 through 2020–21. Overall transfer rates increased from 32.9% in 2015–16 to 43.7% in 2020–21, with the largest gains occurring after 2017–18. Black/African American student transfer rates fluctuated during the period, ranging from 29.7% to 36.9% and ending at 30.6% in 2020–21. First Generation student transfer rates declined to a low of 20.7% in 2016–17 before increasing steadily to a high of 35.3% in 2020–21. Male student transfer rates also increased over time, rising from 29.2% in 2015–16 to 41.8% in 2020–21. The Top 5 Bay Area benchmark remained above the college’s overall transfer rate throughout the period, ranging from 43.2% to 56.2% and reaching its highest level in 2020–21.
