Data Vista Metric Definition:  Among students in the cohort, the proportion who persisted from their first primary term of enrollment to the subsequent primary term at any college.

    The multi-series line chart compares first-to-second-term persistence rates for all students, Black/African American students, First Generation students, Latine male students, and the benchmark for the top five Bay Area colleges from 2015–16 through 2023–24. Overall persistence remained fairly consistent, ranging from 63.13% to 66.51% and ending at 65.84% in 2023–24. Black/African American student persistence remained below the overall rate throughout the period, increasing from 52.65% in 2015–16 to a high of 59.04% in 2022–23 before declining to 55.06% in 2023–24. First Generation student persistence fluctuated from 58.51% to 65.55%, with its highest rate occurring in 2019–20 and ending at 62.3% in 2023–24. Rates for Latine male students ranged from 62.01% to 66.75% for most of the period, with a decline to 61.74% in 2021–22 followed by an increase to 65.16% in 2023–24. The Top 5 Bay Area benchmark ranged from 69.94% to 73.01% and remained above the college’s overall persistence rate throughout the period.
