1st year Math and English Completion Rates (SEP Metric)

Data Vista Metric Definition:  All Cohort Students Who Completed Both Transfer-Level Math and English Within the District in the First Year Aligned with SCFF.  Among students in the cohort, the proportion who completed both transfer-level math and English in their first academic year of credit enrollment within the district

  The multi-series line chart compares the percentage of students who successfully completed Math and English in their first year for all students, Black/African American students, First Generation students, male students, and the benchmark for the top five Bay Area colleges from 2016–17 through 2024–25. Overall completion increased from 12.8% in 2016–17 to 26.3% in 2024–25, reaching its highest rate at the end of the period. Black/African American student completion remained below the overall rate throughout the period but increased from 4.5% in 2016–17 to 16.8% in 2024–25, also reaching its highest rate in the final year. First Generation student completion rose from 9.6% to 22.1%, with some fluctuations after 2019–20. Male student completion increased from 11.5% in 2016–17 to 25.6% in 2024–25, ending just below the overall rate. The Top 5 Bay Area benchmark ranged from 13.6% to 29.1%, remained above the college’s overall rate for most of the period, and ended at 26.5% in 2024–25, nearly equal to the college’s overall completion rate.
