For Faculty and Staff Creating Web Content
Accessibility begins with the way content is written, structured, and uploaded. Faculty and staff who edit web pages should use clear headings, descriptive links, meaningful alt text, accessible tables, and accessible documents.
PDF and Document Accessibility
Los Medanos College has many PDFs and office documents on its website. We recognize that documents can create barriers when they are not properly structured for accessibility. We continue working to improve document accessibility and support better document creation practices.
When possible, important public information should be presented as accessible web content rather than only as a PDF or other downloadable file.
We also use DocAccess to provide a more accessible way for users to interact with many PDF documents online.
How to Use DocAccess
Some PDF links on the Los Medanos College website include a DocAccess option that provides an accessible HTML version of the document. This can help users with screen readers, keyboard navigation, translation needs, and other accessibility needs.
- Open the PDF link from the webpage.
- Look for the DocAccess option or accessible version provided with the document.
- Use the available reading, navigation, translation, or assistance tools as needed.
If you need live assistance with a DocAccess-hosted document, Aira support may also be available through the document interface.
Accessibility Tools and Ongoing Review
We regularly review our website for accessibility issues and use accessibility tools and manual review processes to help identify barriers. The website also includes the UserWay accessibility widget, which offers additional reading and display options for users who may benefit from them.
Even with these efforts, some content may not yet fully meet all accessibility expectations. If you encounter a problem, please let us know so we can improve the experience.
