Careers in Recording Arts:

There are many opportunities for trained recording arts professionals in the fields of sound reinforcement, independent audio engineering, production, mastering, theater sound, audio for video, film, and television, radio broadcast, hardware and software development, and more.

It is important to recognize that the recording industry has undergone a major paradigm shift in recent years. Recording studio jobs continue to exist, but due to the reduction in the need for large numbers of major studios, they are scarce. The current model calls for entrepreneurs and independent contractors, trained to operate in a freelance environment, or organized through labor unions. In the music industry, digital technology and distribution has shifted emphasis away from large record labels and physical media to independent labels and artists who handle their own content and distribution, primarily by download.

For students pursuing a bachelor's degree, the California State University (CSU) system offers a selection of undergraduate degree programs available to LMC Recording Arts graduates.

Fall 2025 RA courses begin on August 25th, 2025.
