Academic Senate Meeting Agenda Requests

If you would like to request space on an agenda, email the Academic Senate President  with the following information by the date listed in the first column of table below for each upcoming Academic Senate meeting.

  1. Title of your request

  2. Name or names of the person (or people) leading the item

  3. Which of the above-listed 10+1 categories you determine your request falls under (the Council will review adjust as/if needed)

  4. Which of the following your item request is to be identified as:
    • a) Community Share-Out/Announcement (made by a LMC community member at the beginning of the meeting and has a one-minute maximum time allowance)

    • b) Committee Update (made by an Academic Senate confirmed faculty member serving on the committee and has a five-minute maximum time allowance)

    • c) College Administration Update (made by a manager and has a five minute maximum time allowance)

    • d) First Reading or Second Reading
      • First Reading:  The first reading of an item is meant for questions, clarifications, suggestions for improvement or for voicing major objections by and among the Academic Senate faculty Representatives. The First Reading designation provides time between the initial agendizing and subsequent voting and gives faculty Senators the chance to confer with their constituencies. Typically, no motions can be offered on a first reading, except to waive the first reading or refer the item back to the maker (AS Council can determine an outcome that alters this - for example, by designating the item as PA, or Possible Action).
It is possible to move to waive a First Reading. This requires a second and can be debated. It takes a majority vote. Usually the First Reading is waived only for time sensitive materials and is used primarily for resolutions. Typically, policy changes as First Readings are not waived.

      • Second Reading:  At the second reading of an item that is returning after having been reviewed on a previous agenda as a First Reading item, and that has been conferred about by Senate Representatives and their constituencies, all appropriate amendments can be offered and voting can take place.

    • e) Discussion item:  These are informational items that are brought forward for the knowledge of the faculty, to support increased understanding, and to enable questioning and clarifying of said information through discussion.  These are non-voting items.

    • The Senate Council will assign the appropriate "outcome" for each  request: Information (I) , Discussion (D), and/or Action  (A) [and potentially, Possible Action (PA)].

  5. The amount of time being requested (time frames are welcomed as opposed to a set time)

  6. The time slot within the two-hour meeting time being requested (no guarantees can be made, but after reviewing a recent agenda to familiarize yourself with the structure and time frames on our Senate agendas, please state a best-suited placement)

Please make sure to also include or be prepared to provide any and all supporting documents related to your agenda request for inclusion in the meeting packet when making your request.
