Josefina Ixcoy Ramirez, 27, was struggling to make ends meet for herself and her children when she began to search for a way to advance in her job and in life.

“I chose LMC because it offers flexible classes, great instructors, and strong support for working mothers,” she said. “It gave me the opportunity to rebuild my life and grow professionally for my children and for myself.”

Ixcoy Ramirez also credited her employer at the YMCA and its partnership with LMC for providing a path for her to complete a certificate of achievement in Early Childhood Education. The certificate, she said will help her move up in her job and other areas of her life, including greater proficiency in English (it’s her second language), and a boost in self-confidence.

“I still have a long way to go, but I’m grateful for the trust and encouragement they’ve given me,” she said. “I also found strength in my children, who inspire me every day to keep moving forward.”

After celebrating completion of her certificate of achievement, Ixcoy Ramirez said she will continue her education, taking general education classes to obtain a teacher permit.

“This is an important step in my journey as an early childhood educator,” she said, adding that she would encourage others to lean into their dreams, even they feel a long way off.

“Believe in yourself. Take things one step at a time, and don’t be afraid to ask for help,” she said. “Your hard work will lead to a better future.”
