Halena Neyazi 2025 Graduate Spotlight

Halena Neyazi

Psychology and Early Childhood Development

Halena NeyaziHalena Neyazi, 20, graduated Los Medanos College this spring with a long list titles and cords to adorn her graduation gown and mark her achievements. Beneath the academic laurels, a shiny smile and easy manner drew people to her with hugs from fellow students, some close friends and some she met just before crossing the graduation stage.

The moment highlighted a quiet but powerful leadership that emerged from Neyazi’s constant presence on campus and involvement with student life, from athletics to government and mentorship.

“I chose LMC because it offered a strong sense of community, and support services for first-generation students like myself,” she said. “It also gave me opportunities to grow.”

She played forward for LMC Women’s Basketball, sat on the dais with the Contra Costa Community College Governing Board as an elected student trustee, took her spot at the EOPS office where she mentored fellow students and then rallied to start and lead the Muslim Student Association.

“LMC taught me that leadership is rooted in service,” she said. “It’s not about holding titles. It’s about showing up for your community, using your voice, and never being afraid to stand alone when it means doing the right thing.”

Neyazi majored in psychology and Early Childhood Development and plans to attend UC Berkeley this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

“My goal is to go directly into the higher education field after completing my degree, with a focus on student support services,” she said.
