Benicia, Calif. – U.S. Congressman John Garamendi on Friday honored 52 women of the 8th Congressional District who “demonstrated a clear commitment to their community through their leadership and dedication to public service.”
Among the honorees was Annisha Geran, Los Medanos College alumna ’24 and ’25, whose time at the college was marked by her achievement and advocacy, while also meeting the challenges of being a working mother.
“This honor means a lot to me because it's another meaningful piece of my life journey,” Geran said. “I enjoy being actively engaged in my children's education because it is beneficial to their academic success.”
Geran has been on the Pittsburg High School Site Council, serving for three years as the vice chair, and founder of Parent Appreciation Night.
“To know my involvement at Pittsburg High School is being recognized on a powerful level is very empowering and motivating to continuing the work that matters – being a part of the change I want to see, and striving for excellence,” she said.

Geran was recognized as an emerging leader in 2025 during the inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Awards at Los Medanos College. She holds several associate degrees from LMC, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Cal State University, Chico.
Geran's educational journey was supported by a scholarship from Los Medanos College Foundation, which helped her transfer to California State University, Chico, and continue pursuing her academic and career goals.
“Annisha's story is a powerful example of what can happen when talent, determination, and opportunity come together,” said Tara Sanders, director of Los Medanos College Foundation. “Scholarships help open doors to opportunity, and Annisha has made the most of every opportunity before her. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and the impact she continues to have in her community.”
