BRENTWOOD, CA: Los Medanos College (LMC) will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Brentwood Center [1351 Pioneer Square, Brentwood, 94513].  The public is welcome to attend and the event is free; RSVPs are not required, and complimentary parking will be available.

This ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrates the completion of a permanent home for the Brentwood Center, which has expanded educational opportunities and enhanced the learning environment for LMC students and Contra Costa County residents.  The Center is built on a 17.5-acre parcel purchased in 2011 by the Contra Costa Community College District (CCCCD).  At 55,000 square feet, the one-story structure more than doubles the size of the Brentwood Center’s former location in a leased space.  Designed by Ratcliff Architects and constructed by Balfour Beatty Construction, the Center features: 15 instructional classrooms; 4 science labs; student support services; library resources; a computer lab; bookstore and food services; tutorial labs; a “Student Commons” area, providing space for gathering/learning outside of the classroom; an interior courtyard; faculty and staff offices; and more than 700 parking stalls.  The new facility is designed to accommodate a headcount of up to 5,000 students in the easternmost part of LMC’s service area in Contra Costa County.

The Brentwood Center, which had a construction budget of about $65M, was made possible through funding from CCCCD Bond Measures A (2006) and E (2014), thanks to support from Contra Costa County taxpayers.

Virtual tours of the Brentwood Center, as well as buildings at the LMC Pittsburg Campus, are available on the Los Medanos College website at https://www.losmedanos.edu/tours/.
