New Cohort Starting for Licensed Vocational Nursing Program

September 16, 2014

PITTSBURG: Los Medanos College (LMC) will be starting a new cohort for its Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) Program in January 2015. The LMC Nursing Department will be accepting applications for the LVN program through October 17, 2014.

The focused three-semester program prepares students for a career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Vocational Nursing is an integral and essential part of all nursing. LVNs care for people who are sick, injured, convalescing, or disabled under the direction of a physician or registered nurse. They give nursing care in simple situations and assisting with nursing care in more complex nursing situations.

The average salary in California for LVNs is currently $47,000. Opportunities for employment are expected to grow 21% between now and 2018 – in anticipation of the aging of baby boomers.

Those interested are encouraged to read the 2014 Vocational Nursing Applicant Handbook available along with other LVN program information at www.losmedanos.edu/nursing/vn.asp.
