Mark Anthony de la O was born in Martinez and raised in Pittsburg, where he attended Marina Elementary and Intermediate Schools, Central Junior High School, and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1977. After high school, Mark attended University of the Pacific’s School of Engineering and later transferred to San Jose State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
In his junior year of studies at San Jose State University, Mark accepted an internship with Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s Marine Division. Upon receiving his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Mark accepted a full-time engineering position with Westinghouse. At Westinghouse, a Government defense contractor, Mark performed engineering design, research and development of Navy and Air Force defense systems. He was promoted to the Program Office where he followed design and manufacturing of various company products. Mark worked for Westinghouse for 11 years. Mark currently works as a Civil Engineer for the Contra Costa County Public Works Department. His 19 years of service with the County has included assignments with the Materials and Testing Laboratory, Design Division, and Maintenance Division. His current assignment is with the Transportation Engineering Division where he develops and implements County roadway improvement projects
