This 33-unit certificate program can be completed in a minimum of 3 semesters.*
The core curriculum:

  • PTEC 10 – Introduction to Process Technology (3 units) Pre-requisite: Math 25
  • PTEC 12 – Petrochemical Safety, Health and Environment (1 unit)
  • PTEC 24 – Process Instrumentation (3 units)
  • PTEC 25 - Process Technology I – Equipment ( 3 units)
  • PTEC 27 – Applied Instrumentation (1 unit) Prerequisite: CHEM 6 or 7
  • PTEC 35 – Process Technology II – Systems (3 units)
  • PTEC 44 - Petrochemical Simulation Laboratory (1 unit)
  • PTEC 45 – Process Technology III – Operations (3 units)
  • PTEC 48 – Process Trouble Shooting (3 units)
  • MATH 30 – Intermediate Algebra (4 units)
  • CHEM 6 – Introduction to Inorganic and Physical Chemistry (4 units)
  • PHYS 15 – Introduction to Physics (4 units)

Additional courses:

  • PTEC 4 - Process Technology (PTEC) Career Exploration (2 units)
    (PTEC 4 is not part of the core curriculum, but is an online course that will help students decide if a career as a process technician is the right choice for them).

Graduation Requirements for the Certificate:

  • Please refer to the LMC catalog for college graduation requirements.

Associate of Science Degree
Complete your General Education requirements in addition to the core courses for the Certificate of Achievement in Process Technology to earn an AS Degree in Process Technology. Math 30 also satisfies the Math requirement for the AS degree. Physics 15 also satisfies the Physical Science requirement for the AS degree. A total of 60 units to achieve an AS Degree in PTEC can be completed in 2-2 ½ years.

Program Entry Skills:
MATH 25 – Elementary Algebra (5 units)
ENGL 90 – Integrated Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking (5 units)
Either complete these courses or take the assessment test and assess higher than these courses prior to enrolling in PTEC 10.

 

Competency Requirements
Placement tests are offered by LMC. Due to an increase in students attending Los Medanos College, we are now requiring that students schedule an appointment to take their English & math assessments.
