This Roadmap is provided as a SAMPLE GUIDE showing what a full-time student's schedule MAY look like. There is no guarantee that all classes will be offered each semester or that classes will have space available. You must meet all prerequisite requirements prior to registering for a class.
Follow this roadmap to transfer to a four-year university in a Chemistry major. This is a sample schedule for planning your classes, but should be individualized for specific majors and universities.
Students may also complete the A.S. degree in Chemistry by completing this plan. Consult with a Los Medanos Counselor for help in planning your schedule. Visit the Chemistry website for more information.
|CHEM-006*||PHYSICS-015*||ENGLISH-220 or 221** or GE|
|MATH-030 or 029*||MATH-040*|
MATH-026* or GE
|CHEM-025*||CHEM-026||GE or SPEECH-110
|PHYS- 041***||PHYS- 042***|
* Take these classes only if you have not completed classes in Chemistry or Physics in high school, or are not ready for English Composition or Calculus. CHEM-025 has prerequisites of high school chemistry or CHEM-006, and MATH-030 or Algebra 2 in high school. MATH-040 has prerequisites of Algebra 2 and geometry. MATH-050 has prerequisites of geometry and precalculus. PHYS-015 is recommended only if you have not completed physics in high school.
**The Chemistry major at UC Berkeley requires English 230, if IGETC will not be completed. Also for UC Berkeley, two or three semesters of foreign language must be completed, if three years of a foreign language were not completed in high school. Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org.
***Some universities require PHYS 42, and some don't. For a B.A. in Chemistry, instead of a B.S., some universities accept PHYS-035-36 instead of PHYS-040-41-42. Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org for specific campuses.
****MATH-075 and MATH-080 are not required by all universities. CHEM-028 and CHEM-029 are not required by all CSU campuses. Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org for specific campuses.
Biochemistry majors, and certain options in the Chemistry major, and UC Merced and Cal Poly (SLO), may also require completion of BIOSC 20 & 21, and other specified courses. Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org.(BIOSC-020 has a prerequisite of Algebra 2, and an advisory of a previous Biology class.)
This plan is for full-time students who can study 26 to 32+ hours every week outside of class. For successful completion, this plan will require your commitment and excellent time management skills.
Planning for transfer is a complex process. Please consult with your LMC Counselor, professors in your major classes, and university representatives every semester.
These plans do not guarantee acceptance to a university – other factors such as strength of academic preparation and related experience are also important.
