Event

We are pleased to announce that Gary Soto will be visiting LMC for a presentation and book signing on Tues. Nov. 7th 2:30-4 in the Recital Hall. This event is being funded by Student Equity and we are partnering with Student Life to get the word out to our campus community. Mr. Soto is a prolific author, poet and playwright as well as an engaging, and humorous speaker; we hope to give him a warm LMC welcome!

In addition to his 45-minute presentation, there will be a book signing of current and older titles.  His latest books are Meatballs for the People: Proverbs to Chew On and The Spark and Fire of It (a one-act play).  Books are priced between $5 - $12.

For those who may not know Gary Soto’s work:

“Gary Soto has published more than forty books for children, young adults and adults, including [Jesse], Baseball in April, Too Many Tamales, Living Up the Street, A Summer Life, Buried Onions and The Afterlife. He is the author of “Oranges,” the most anthologized poem in contemporary literature. He has been awarded fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts (twice). His New and Selected Poems was a 1995 finalist for both the National Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Award. His books have sold four million copies nationwide and have been translated into French, Japanese, Italian, Korean, and Spanish. The Gary Soto Literary Museum is located at Fresno City College. He lives in Berkeley, California.”
