Sign Ups for the Thanksgiving Baskets will be capped at 35 applications. See registration form below.

 

 

November 25th and 26th - Thanksgiving Basket Drive for LMC Students in need.

 

Sponsored by the Umoja Scholars Program with support from the LMC Foundation and the LMC Community.

Availbility is limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last.

Recipients must be current LMC students. Recipients will be contacted for pick-up and required to fill out waivers upon receipt of the Thanksgiving basket.

 

Pick up will be scheduled on November 25th and 26th. Location TBD.

December 6, 2013 - Black College Tour Application Deadeline!!

What the tour includes:

Application Process:
Interested applicants need to pick up an application in the Student Life Office. Students will be required to fill out an application and include a 1-2 page essay explaining why they want to attend the Black College Tour and what they hope to take away from the experience, and a copy of their unofficial transcripts. Applications will be due on Friday, December 6 2013 in the Student Life Office, no later than 3:00 p.m. The applications will be evaluated by LMC Faculty and Staff. Four applicants will be selected and contacted no later than Friday, December 13, 2013 via email. The actual tour will take place in the Spring 2014 semester (leaving on Sunday, April 13th).

Applications can be picked up in the Student Life Office, the Umoja Village (Math room 109) and the Transfer Center.

October 30th 1pm -2:30pm - Motivational Speakers Series: Dr. Jamal Cooks


This Wednesday, October 30thfrom 1:00 pm -2:00 pm in the Library Community Room, the Umoja Scholars Program will host its first speaker in its Motivational Speaker Series. The featured guest will be San Francisco State English Professor, Dr. Jamal Cooks. Dr. Cooks has published a variety of writings on African American literacy and culturally relevant pedagogy, he volunteers as the Head Coach for an elite track club for inner city youth in Oakland, and travels the country speaking on topics such as Urban Literacy, Cultural Communication and Education. Dr. Cooks will be discussing his educational journey and advising students on how to succeed in college. Please encourage your students to attend, all are welcome.

April 12th 4pm-6pm in L109: I Love Africa Celebration!

 

 

The Umoja Scholars Program will be hosting an African Celebration. This celebration will include history presentations on East, West, South, Central and North Africa; performances of various cultural dances and songs; and African food prefaced by a brief presentation on the origins of the food.This event will take place in the Library Community Room (L109) from 4pm-6pm on Friday, April 12th and is open to all LMC students, staff and faculty.

March 30th 1pm-4pm in L109: Ladder to Success Career Mentor Luncheon


The Umoja Scholars Program will be hosting its annual Ladder to Success Career Mentor Luncheon on Saturday, March 30th from 1pm-4pm. This luncheon is designed to pair eligible Umoja Scholars with a professional in the career field of his or her interest. It's an excellent opportunity for both students and mentors.

Health and Wellness in the African American Community: Mind, Body & Soul Workshop - November 21st, 12pm-2pm in L109.

 

The Umoja Scholars Program will be hosting a workshop that addresses mental, physical and spiritual health in the African American community. This event will take place in the Library Community Room (L109) from 12pm-2pm on Wednesday, November 21st and is open to all LMC students, staff and faculty.
