Classified Senate

Providing classified staff with a formal representative voice.

Fundraising events

Each year the Classified Senate plans fundraising events to raise money for student scholarships.

On May 8, 2015 we awarded $4300.00 in scholarships to deserving students. Scholarships were awarded to the following: Continuing Students: Leonardo Bojorquez, Sonia Bustos, Eric Meza, Joshua Oseguera and Ines Torres. Transferring Students: Olivia Granger, Thuc Nguyen, Irene Orellana, Shannon Quigley and Mariana Vera. We also gave our yearly $300.00 contribution to the Kennedy King Scholarship. Congratulations to each of the recipients!!!

Thanks are also extended to Linda Kohler and Grace Villegas for reading the applications and rating them. This is a very time consuming process due to the large number of applications we receive.

In addition to the fundraising efforts listed below we have several employees who donate through monthly payroll donations - thank you! We also want to thank a very special professor who donates money to our fundraising efforts each year - Lois Yamakoshi. Thank you to everyone who contributes in any way to this great effort.

A special thank you to Nicole Almassey as the "Basket Queen" who collects donations and prepares beautiful baskets for each of the fundraisers which adds to our proceeds. Thank you Nicole you are appreciated!

Below is a list of some of the events we have hosted and the money we raised at each event.

Pizza Lunch

Pizza Lunch

The Classified Senate hosts a Pizza Lunch each year on the required Flex day which is our opening day meeting for the entire college. This kicks-off our yearly fundraising activities.

On August 14, 2014 we raised $153.80 towards our student scholarships. Thank you to the Classified Senate members who helped to package, deliver and enjoy a great lunch on a very busy day.

Soup cookoff

Soup Cookoff

On November 11, 2014 the Classified Senate hosted the 5th annual Soup Cookoff. Once again the committee headed by Linda Maniscalco and Carole Betz provided a lively competition of LMC cooks from faculty, staff and students. As usual the soup sold out and everyone left happy and full. We raised $887.16 for student scholarships and our thanks go to all of the great cooks, and the helpers that day who sold tickets, soup and provided any help needed. Another popular fundraiser for the entire campus.

Holiday Lunch

Holiday Lunch

December 10, 2014 was our annual Holiday Lunch. This was another fun and successful lunch where we raised $1383.08!!! The committee, headed by Sandra Mills, decorated, served and gathered and sold tickets for prize drawings to make this another delicious and fun activity. A big thanks to all who planned, decorated, served and cleaned to make this so successful.

Sees candy

Holiday See's Candy Sale

Each year in December we sell See's candy and by charging just $0.25 per box sold we raised $59.95 for our student scholarships. Thanks to Linda Kohler and Eileen Valenzuela for their work each year to make sure everyone gets their candy on time to give as gifts or enjoy a treat for themselves.

Chili cookoff

Chili Cookoff

On March 3, 2015 the Classified Senate held the 10th annual chili cookoff where faculty, staff and students are invited to compete for the best bowl of chili.

A big thank you goes to the planning committee, chaired by Sylvia Benzler, Carole Betz and Mary Oleson, and all those who helped the day of the cookoff and especially those who prepared the chili. Once again the chili sold out and people wanted more. Our cookoff's are the most popular fundraisers for the entire campus.
