Foreign Language Department

Foreign Language Spanish Placement Exam is available

Student picturesLMC has a program to help students with previous background in the study of Spanish (in middle school, high school, another school or college) with an online placement test in Spanish. Participants receive e-mail notification of which Spanish course they should best enroll in at Los Medanos College. For information go to the LMC Web Page, Assessment Page, email nwhitman@losmedanos.edu  or phone (925) 439 2181 ext. 3148. In addition, based on the placement results and after consultation with the test advisor, the student may sign up to earn extra units based on the previous study.  Thus, if you had, for example, two years of high school Spanish with good grades, you take the placement test and talk to the advisor. If the test and advisor recommend you enroll in Spanish 51S, you take that course and upon completion of Spanish 51S with a grade of A or B, Los Medanos College will award you units for both Spanish 50S and 51S (5 units per course for a total of 10 units). You must pay for the units.

Here are the procedures:

1.  Log on to the Internet site of the placement test from any Internet connected computer and you can take the test in LRC I in the computer lab if you like.  It should not take more than 30 minutes.

2. Go to this site http://webcape.byuhtrsc.org?acct=losmedanos and check the list of schools until you click on Los Medanos College .

3. On the next screen, type in:

User name: (losmedanos user)

Password: (mustangs1)

4. Then follow the directions to take the test.

When you have completed the test - print the results and then contact the advisor, Dr. Whitman, in 211B, available daily during posted office hours, by phone at (925) 439-2181 est. 3148, email nwhitman@losmedanos.edu

or take the form to Admissions on the Pittsburg campus to register for the appropriate class.  You will need to complete a form so that we know you want us to grant the credit for previous study upon completion of your LMC Spanish course.  You may earn the same number of units for previous study that you earn for the Spanish course you enroll in.  You must pay for the extra units.
