NEWS

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

This page is dedicated to past student athletes of Los Medanos Softball teams. These student athletes come together as a team, work and play as a unit, and then part ways along their pathway to life. I will briefly "introduce" the players and use excerpts in the student athletes' own words, as they describe their new challenges and adventures.

Tim Rognlien, LMC Head Coach, Softball

Jenna was a dominant pitcher with a fierce competitive nature. A Unanimous First Team Selection to the Bay Valley Conference (BVC) team, Jen had numerous no-hit games and 1 perfect pitch game to spark a successful comeback by the LMC program. Jen was also an All State Academic Award winner, leaving LMC with at least a 3.5 GPA.

"I have graduated from California State University, East Bay with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences. I am now working full-time for On-Site Health and Safety, running the customer service department. I am also part of the Ghana mission trip committee at On-Site. We are raising money and medical supplies so we can go to Ghana and teach individuals from their community how to provide first aid treatment / some medical care for themselves. Softball is still a big part of my life; playing slow pitch league and tournaments."

#13 Lyrica Langlois

Lyrica (LL Cool J) was an outstanding hitting shortstop with a great knowledge of softball. She was another coach on the field. A First Team BVC Selection, she earned a full ride scholarship to Missouri Valley State, but her heart was in Nursing, so she has chosen another path. Cool J was another All State Academic Award winner.

"I hung up my cleats and just entered my 1st semester at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland as a BSN student. I will graduate December 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This is exactly what I've been working so hard towards, and I'm so very blessed to get to be doing what I love!"

Renee was a very versatile player with great speed, a strong, accurate arm and outstanding defensive skills. Normally an outfielder, Renee was pressed into duty at shortstop because of injuries and played probably the best defensive game at shortstop I have seen at LMC. Renee was a BVC selection and an All State Academic Award winner. Keep your eyes open for Renee to show up on national TV in the near future!

"I'm entering my last semester at San Francisco State. I've already worked my way to being the Sports Editor for the paper here and worked close with all of the athletic teams. I've written for two different publications and my articles have been read as far as the East Coast! I've been able to work with and learn from top journalists in the Bay Area, including Amy G. the sports on-field reporter for the SF Giants. Even though I haven't played softball since LMC, I've been able to get field access to softball and baseball games here at State and I've built relationships with the coaches and players who let me use their facilities and equipment to a take a few hacks or play catch with the players."

#8 Maria Reyes

Maria was a journeyman ballplayer. Not afraid to get in the dirt and make the tough plays at 3rd Base. She also donned the Catcher's gear and even pitched in relief when needed. Full of softball knowlege, she was always willing to share with teammates and coaches.

"As of right now, I am coaching at Liberty High School, going to school at LMC, and working full-time. Hopefully soon to be transferring from LMC."

Rachel ("Skippy") was blessed with speed to burn and used it well as an outfielder and base stealer. She possessed tremendous bat speed and showed awesome power for a smallish player. Skippy earned All BVC recognition and left LMC with a GPA over 3.0.

"It's so good to hear from you and that you are still coaching at LMC. I am now in my Senior year at Tennessee State University. While I am no longer playing softball, I am chasing my dreams in the career field of Urban Planning (City Planning). I am also in the process of receiving my real estate license. Thank you for being a great coach and providing me with great life skills, things I will carry on with me."
