Summer Bridge Program
New Umoja students participate in a 6 week summer program consisting of an English Refresher Course, Prealgebra and Orientation to College course. Students are exposed to various campus resources and also participate in cultural and social activities and fieldtrips.
Tutoring
Students have access to Umoja English and math tutors. Tutors attend the classes and are available to meet with students for private and small group tutoring outside of class.
Ladder to Success Mentor Program
Umoja students are matched with a professional mentor with a career in their desired field. Students receive training to conduct an interview at their mentor's workplace in the spring.
Mentors Among Us
Umoja students can sign up to be paired with a LMC Faculty or Staff. They meet with their mentor at least once a month for advice, encouragement, and referral to resources.
Counseling
Students have access to our Umoja counselor. The counselor works with each student to develop and check on the progress of their educational plan. We use an intrusive counseling model and early intervention system to keep students on track and give them the support they need to succeed.
Academic & Cultural Events
Students plan and participate in a number of activities and events throughout each semester. These include workshops, college trips, field trips, and community service activities.
