The Los Medanos College Scholarship Office
is open Monday - Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. during the summer. We are located in Room CC3-440 inside the Admissions Building, next to the Transfer Center. Appointments are not necessary, but are recommended to assure someone is available to assist you. If you require special accommodations (large print, speech to audio), assistance is available in the Hi-Tech Center, CC3-625, ext. 3279.
If you have been awarded a scholarship and need information on how to access your funds, please contact the Scholarship Office. Please note that your registration fees are not paid automatically. You must visit, call, or contact the Scholarship Office to initiate use of your scholarship funds for your educational expenses.
LMC and Local Community Scholarships
The Los Medanos Process Technology Scholarship
Five (5) scholarships available per semester!
Criteria:
1. Must be enrolled in the Process Technology Program at either Los Medanos College or Contra Costa College.
2. Intend to pursue a career in Process Technology.
3. An overall GPA of 3.0 or better is desirable.
Deadline is October 31, 2008 for Fall scholarships, and May 31, 2009 for Spring scholarships.

ACS Scholars Program- ACS awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented minority students who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields.
If you are an African American, Hispanic, or American Indian high school senior or college freshman, sophomore, or junior pursuing a college degree in the chemical sciences or chemical technology, you may be eligible.
Awards of up to $5,000* are given to qualified applicants based on academic standing, financial need, career objective, leadership skills, and involvement in school activities and community service.

AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships-AIFS annually awards more than $250,000 in scholarships to summer and semester students who submit application materials demonstrating high academic achievement. Scholarships are available for both summer and semester programs.

American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) Scholarship Program-2009-2010 is now accepting applications. The mission of the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is to contribute to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities and identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population.
As 2009 is the first year of the scholarship program, funds are limited and we anticipate that scholarships will be competitive. Scholarships will be limited to under $1,000.
Scholarship Program Criteria:
- Applicant must be a high school graduate, have a documented disability and provide documentation of their disability.
- Application must be a US citizen or legal resident living in the US and enrolled in, or accepted by, an accredited US four year university or graduate school on a full-time basis.
- Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, disability studies, health promotion or a field related to disability and health.

CKSF Intern Challenge-Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation supports high school and college students.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must register online with CKSF and complete quizzes on various topics. The student with the most points from correct answers and the shortest time that it takes to answer the questions wins the scholarship.

College Seen Photo Contest for Community College Students-$500 Cash Award!
The contest provides a forum for showcasing and recognizing outstanding Community College student work. It invites students to look around, pick up their cameras, and capture the scenes that make each college unique.
Students may submit up to six photographs, one for each category. The categories are:
- Sustainability
- Technology and Learning
- Career Preparation/Work Experience
- Campus Elements
- Campus Life
- Conceptual

The Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan is a new UC financial aid program intended to expand access to the University for lower-income students by establishing a minimum level of grant aid for undergraduates with financial need and household incomes below the state median of $60,000.
To be eligible for the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan, you must:
- Be a California resident
- Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2 and provide any additional documentation campuses may request by the specified deadline.
- Apply for a Cal Grant (if you haven't already)
- Demonstrate income below $60,000 with financial need (as determined for federal need-based aid programs)
- Be in your first four years as a UC undergraduate (first two for transfer students)
- Meet other campus basic requirements for UC grant aid (for example, be enrolled at least half-time during the academic year, meet campus academic progress standards, not be in default on student loans, etc.)

The Leadership Award-Established in 1934, the Leadership Award is one of the most prestigious merit-based scholarships at UC Berkeley.
The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship that recognizes Cal students who demonstrate innovative, motivational leadership impacting their academic, work, or community environments. Students compete for the scholarship every academic year.
Eligibility Requirements for incoming junior transfer Cal student:
- Minimum 3.3 unweighted GPA
- Demonstrate innovative, motivational leadership impacting academic, work, or community environments
- Submit a UC Berkeley application for Fall 2009/Spring 2010 enrollment
- Interview in-person on campus in September 2009

Salvadoran American Leadership and Education Fund (SALEF) is "Fulfilling Our Dreams Scholarship" Fund is making higher education a reality for Central American and Latino students, including AB 540 students, with approximately 400 scholarships provided since 1998. SALEF's "Fulfilling Our Dreams Scholarship" Fund offers financial assistance and support to undergraduate, graduate and professional students, often making the difference in whether a student can attend college or not.
