EOPS services have evolved over the years. Over that time we have worked exceedingly hard to remove the notion that the program is simply a "Book Voucher" program to a program that caters to a wide range of student issues both in and out of the classroom. Depending on available funding, the services we provide include:
Individualized Counseling - Six semester educational planning, pre-registeration advising, transfer advising, exit interviews.
Group Counseling - Motivation series, Transfer series, Goal setting series, Scholarship series, P.O.W.E.R series, Navigating the educational system series.
Calculator Loans - TI 83, TI 84, TI 86, & TI 89 calculators available to borrow for most math and science courses.
Transportation Assistance - Semester parking permits available to all students eligible for "Full Services" with EOPS.
Progress Monitoring - Mid-Semester Progress Reports used to guage how to leverage other esources for students not meeting satisfactory academic progress (i.e. tutoring or social and/or academic intervention). Also gives students the opportunity to network with their instructors outside the classroom setting.
Community Outreach Activities - Engage students and the community on issues of critical importance to them.
Grants and Scholarships - Small grants issued to students meeting EOPS requirements (depending on funding) once a year. Also, four (4) scholarships offered to transfer EOPS students. One scholarship is the prestigious "EOPS Perpetual Spirit Award"; given to distinguish a student who embodies qualities that are positive influences on the EOPS and LMC community. The student will posses qualities that strive for empowerment, demonstrate resiliency, critical self-development and academic growth. This award carries a monetary value of $1,000.00. The other is the "EOPS Achievement Award"; given to students who have made progress both personally and academically and has a commitment to the LMC and EOPS community.
Priority Registration - EOPS students get the opportunity to register for classes before the rest of the college community. This allows our students to have first access to classes they need in order to meet their educational goals in a timely manner.
Book Voucher and Supplies - EOPS supplements the cost of textbooks for students and also provides some supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, scantrons, flashdrives, etc).
