Biology Roadmap

Biology 2-year roadmap for Transfer/A.S.

This Roadmap is provided as a SAMPLE GUIDE showing what a full-time student's schedule MAY look like. There is no guarantee that all classes will be offered each semester or that classes will have space available. You must meet all prerequisite requirements prior to registering for a class.

Are you ready to jump into a challenging, full-time schedule of science and math classes?

Follow this roadmap to transfer to a four-year university in a Biology major. This is a sample schedule for planning your classes, but should be individualized for specific majors and universities. Use this roadmap for related majors and careers such as Biochemistry, Pre-Medical, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Veterinary, and Pre-Optometry.

Students may also complete the A.S. degree in Biology by completing this plan. Consult with a Los Medanos Counselor for help in planning your schedule. Visit the Biology website for more information.

Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org to modify the plan for you.

*BIOSC-020 has a prerequisite of MATH-030 or Algebra 2 in high school. CHEM-025 has prerequisites of high school chemistry or CHEM-006, and MATH-030 (or Algebra 2). MATH-050 has prerequisites of geometry and precalculus. PHYS-015 is recommended if you have not completed physics in high school.

**Most CSU campuses and most UC campuses (except UC Santa Cruz) are satisfied with PHYSICS-035/37 & 036/38 rather than PHYS-040-41-42 for Biology majors. Some campuses do not require PHYS-037 & -038. If required, the Physics-040 series should be started in Spring 1. Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org, especially for Biochemistry majors, to choose the correct physics series.

***Some Biology majors at UC Berkeley require English 230 and two or three semesters of a foreign language (if three years of a foreign language were not completed in high school), if IGETC will not be completed. Please check with your LMC Counselor and www.assist.org.

****Required as co-requisite for PHYS-041 & 042, if this series is completed instead of PHYS-035 & -036. Also, some universities recommend continuing on to MATH 70.

GE = CSUGE or IGETC classes selected from Arts & Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences, or other areas as needed. Please consult with your LMC Counselor.

This plan is for full-time students who can study 30 to 36+ hours every week outside of class. For successful completion, this plan will require your commitment and excellent time management skills.

Planning for transfer is a complex process. Please consult with your LMC Counselor, professors in your major classes, and university representatives every semester.

These plans do not guarantee acceptance to a university – other factors such as strength of academic preparation and related experience are also important.
