Step

1. Complete
and submit an application
If
you have not submitted a college application for admission, please
do so as soon as possible. Apply

2. Assess in English
and Math (if necessary)
Assessment means finding out what your strengths and weaknesses
are in certain basic college skills. All new students planning to earn an associate degree or transfer to a 4-year college or university must take the assessment tests. Your assessment scores will
assist you and the counselor you meet with at your New Student Workshop
to determine which courses are appropriate for you. Find out whether you need to take the assessment tests.
The Assessment Center,
located in room CC3-524 (on level 3, across from the Admissions
Office), is open on a drop-in basis during the hours indicated on
the testing
schedule. Assessment may also be available at Brentwood Center.
NOTE: If you are a graduating high school student from
a local area high school, please contact your schools Career
Center or a school counselor early in the spring semester to schedule
appointments to attend an LMC Outreach information session. Assessment testing instructions for high school seniors will be given at that time. Outreach high school visits
Step 3. Attend
a New Student Orientation (first-time college students only)
The New Student Workshop will provide you with important information
about college programs, services, policies, procedures, and requirements, and is essential for new students.
There are three options to choose from:
New Student Workshop A counselor will be present to help you select first-semester classes and provide a brief orientation.

Orientation Class (COUNS 030 - 1 unit) Enroll in this class, taught by a counselor, for the best and most complete orientation. Sign up for COUNS 030 through WebAdvisor.
Online Orientation Provides a brief but convenient orientation that should be followed by an appointment with a counselor. Click here for the Online Orientation.
NOTE: If you are a graduating high

the spring semester for information about New
Student Orientation exclusively for graduating seniors.
Step 4. Register for classes and pay fees
You may register for your classes online or through the telephone registration
system within two working days after attending New Student Orientation.
Fees must be paid within 10 business days by Visa or MasterCard,
or by check.

Dont
have money for fees?
Visit
the Financial Aid Office to find out whether you are eligible a
fee waiver. You may also be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant or
for scholarships. See Financial
Aid or Scholarships for more information.
Step 5. Purchase textbooks and attend classes
Required textbooks and supplies may be purchased from the LMC's Mustang Bookstore.
Bring a printout of your class schedule to the bookstore and one
of the staff will help you locate the books you need. You may find
it even more convenient to purchase books through LMC's Bookstore
Online.
Step
6. Make an appointment
with a counselor
Early in the semester, make an appointment with an LMC counselor
to discuss your educational goal and develop an educational plan. More about Counseling

Attend
classes and be successful
- Attend
class on the first day of instruction to avoid being dropped from
your course.
- Keep
a copy of your schedule to remember the dates, times and locations
of your classes.
- Take
advantage of the numerous instructional support services on campus;
e.g., computer labs, counseling, library,
Center for Academic Support (provides assistance with reading and writing assignments, as well as general tutoring).
- Get
to know your instructors inside and outside the classroom.
They can be your greatest allies.
- See
a counselor every semester to make sure you are taking the right classes to achieve your
goal.
