PITTSBURG: The award-winning Los Medanos College (LMC) and Contra Costa College (CCC) debate teams will go head-to-head in an informational debate about Measure E, a local bond measure to upgrade educational facilities for Contra Costa Community College District. This measure would include Contra Costa College, Los Medanos College, Diablo Valley College, and the district’s two centers in Brentwood and San Ramon. The debate will take place on Thursday, May 1 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Pittsburg City Council Chambers, 65 Civic Avenue in Pittsburg. Admission and parking is free. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
Come discuss and learn about the upcoming countywide Measure E initiative and see the award-winning Contra Costa and Los Medanos debate teams present their cases for your vote. Should the county use a new bond measure to support its community college facilities? You decide! There will be a short introduction lecture on the topic of the debate (Measure E) and then three LMC debaters will take on three CCC debaters. The informational event will raise the best arguments on both sides so attendees can make up their own minds about this important ballot initiative. Light refreshments will be served afterward, with time for people to network and discuss the debate.
Of note: The Los Medanos College (LMC) National Debate Team recently returned from the National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) Championship Tournament in Flagstaff, Arizona at Northern Arizona University. The team placed 3rd overall in the Community College Division, which took place from March 20-24, 2014.
