LMC has an account with Apple to have a presence as an iTunesU (university) campus.
To visit this site you must have iTunes installed on your computer and the latest version of quicktime
Once your computer is up to date you can view our campus presence through the portal page.
Currently to post content to this area you must contact the LMC web administrator to post audio, video or PDF content.
We have a lot of free space on iTunes and it creates a nice shared area for the campus and for instructional material. The requirements for posting to iTunes are as follows: iTunes U only accepts files for upload that are less than 500 megabytes (MB). Audio files must be either AAC or MP3 with appropriate file extensions (.m4a, .mp3). To use specific cover artwork with an audio track, use the AAC file type format (.m4a). Video files must be MPEG-4 with H.264 compression with appropriate file extensions (.mp4, .m4v, .mov). If you are using QuickTime to create and edit video content, export your videos by choosing Movie to iPod from the Export pop-up menu in QuickTime Pro.
Video and audio hosting through other services
We currently have a youtube account for Los Medanos college. Please contact the LMC Web Administrator on posting information to this area. You can either post to this account or create your own account through youtube. The great thing about youtube is that you don't need to worry about having the correct software on your machine to view video content. Nor do you have to worry about bandwidth or space on a webserver. You just upload your content and let youtube worry about the rest.
Once you upload a video to youtube it will give you some html code. You can take that code and embed it into your web page at LMC so that the video is in alignment with your text.
The video above explores three different hosting solutions for blogging and video/podcasting hosting from the completely free to the more expensive professional solution.
Rule of thumb: Remember that short chunks of information is better. Just because you can post video make sure it's not too long so it keeps the viewers attention. Two to three minutes is a good length.
Please contact the LMC web adminstrator for more ideas and ways you might present your multimedia presentations.
