New Personnel

As most of you know, Jordan Jones has resigned from his position at LMC and moved with his family to Oregon. We are pleased to have Linelle Woods with us temporarily till the end of the year. Linelle came to us from DVC and brings with her knowledge of the District and years of experience in supporting IT systems and resources. She will be the friendly voice greeting you at the other end of the help desk when you call in the mornings and will be assisting you in other ways as well. Elaine, Rod and Anthony continue to be the dynamic threesome in IT support and we appreciate all they do to support our IT systems and resources.

Changes and more changes

The print reserve collection (books and articles) have now been moved to LRC3 to be a part of the LibraryÕs services and offerings. Please refer all of your students to go to LRC3 to check out textbooks and required article readings. In LRC2, we continue to offer our students ID card service as well audio-visual viewing and some duplication services. In addition, students can still come to LRC2 to check out calculators.

Need Help with Reserve Materials?

Instructors who wish to continue to use our Reserve services, please go to this address for full details: http://www2.losmedanos.edu/library/reserve3.html

We have Reserve guidelines, forms and even a sample permissions letter for you to use. Please contact the Reserve desk at ext. 3393 for more details.

Improved Computing Resources

Over the summer, the IT department has taken the opportunity to upgrade the Staff Training Room, the Library computers, and the EMT lab. So brand-new, fast computers are now available in these three areas. In addition, the IT department has worked diligently with the staff in Computer Science to upgrade their lab computers as well.

More ScanTron Machines Available

Thanks to the great effort by Emily Bruns, LMC now has three more Scantron machines available for your use. The additional machines are located in the Staff Training Room, the Math lab area and the Nursing area. The one in LRC2 continues to be available for your use, of course.

Classroom Upgrades

We are in the process of having TVs and DVD/VCR combo units mounted in the following classrooms: 118, 119, 120, 213, 221, 222, 223, 290, 291, 292, 296 and 501. You wonÕt have to put in a media services request to have a TV/VCR/DVD pushed into these rooms. The remote controls will be attached to the units as well, so all the pieces you will need to operate the equipment will be readily available in the classrooms. However, you will still need to come to LRC2 to personally check out the tape or DVD that you need for your class.

Technology Resources Available State-wide

The State of California, through the leadership of the System Office and the Foundation for California Community Colleges, has a number of excellent technology resources available for your use at no charge to you or the institution. I will be highlighting in this newsletter one of these resources: CCCconfer.

CCCconfer provides free telephone and web conferencing for anyone in the California Community College system. It allows for planned or impromptu meetings with two or more people either through the telephone or by combining the telephone with the Web. With the Web, you can share documents (PowerPoint slides, documents, etc), co-browse the Web, share applications, poll your audience, or use the whiteboard for taking notes. It also has public or private chat features and the ability to archive the entire session. Some faculty use CCCconfer to teach classes (such as our very own Laurie Huffman) and others use it to hold Virtual Office Hours. Check it out at http://cccconfer.org

Please contact me if you want or need more information about this and more technology resources available system-wide.
