Newly Improved LMC Computing Environment

The IT department has been working diligently over the past year or so to improve LMC’s computing environment. I’m happy to report that we are near completion on this long-term project. In this new LMC computing environment, we have:

ü       A new losmedanos domain for LMC users

ü       A new file server

ü       A new print server

We hope these new resources will make computing more convenient, efficient and workable for you.

Web Outlook

Because of the domain change (even though some of you are still in the 4cd domain), here are the updated instructions for accessing Web Outlook:

Address:              lapis.losmedanos.edu

Username:           your lmc username

Password:            your lmc password

Domain:               losmedanos (4cd-domain for those of you who have not been informed by IT that you have been switched to the losmedanos domain)

For those of you using new versions of Microsoft OS, you may get only two lines: one for username and the other for password. In this case, please insert losmedanos\ in front of your username. Please call extension 3767 promptly if you experience difficulties with your username or password.

More eBook Collections available

Based on the great success of our 1st and 2nd eBook collections, the Library has just purchased the 3rd eBook collection, thus enhancing your access to greater number of resources. eBooks have now been incorporated into our online catalog. You may conduct searches in the normal way; if there is an eBook available on your topic, it will be part of your search result list. Once you select the title, you will see the link to the website. If you want to peruse that particular book, simply click on the link. Also thanks to the support by VTEA, we have purchased yet another eBook collection, this one focused primarily on health and medical resources. Please let your students know about these wonderful resources!!!

“Ask a Librarian” is here!

“Ask a Librarian”, LMC Library’s newest electronic service is being implemented. You will be able to access reference services on the Internet 24/7 via this new service. Please visit this website for more details: http://www.losmedanos.edu/LMC_library/ask.html

Additional Electronic Services and Resources

The rich database collection we have available from the LMC library including InfoTrac and SIRS Researcher are available 24/7 on the Internet. When you visit the Library’s website, be sure to click on electronic databases. You will only need to provide your last name and DataTel ID once to have full access to these databases.

For all you instructors who wish to continue to use our Reserve services, please go to this address for full details: http://www2.losmedanos.edu/library/reserve3.html

We have guidelines, forms and even a sample permissions letter for you to use.
