Los Medanos College, in conjunction with the Contra Costa County Fire Chiefs’ Association, offers classes leading to California State Fire Marshal Fire Officer certification. This partnership is committed to providing the highest level of quality training and education to the California fire service. The ten courses leading to Fire Officer certification are open to working firefighters and those seeking careers in the fire service. Actual certification by the State Fire Marshal requires a minimum of two (2) years full-time, or four (4) years volunteer or part-time, paid experience in a California fire department as a fire fighter performing suppression duties. Any request for accommodations in a training program or for off-campus training should be referred to a DSPS counselor. Students should keep in mind that the individual institutions that host the College’s training programs may have their own rules and regulations that must be followed, and not all accommodations requested may be feasible, permissible, or reasonable. Therefore, DSPS will work together with the students, the instructor, and the on-or off-site training program to determine the appropriate accommodations and facilitate in implementing those accommodations. |
