2009 PTEC Summer Academy is a huge success!

The PTEC Summer Academy ran from June 22-26, 2009 with 33 local high school students representing 5 of our 6 regional high schools!

Some of the comments from our students:

- “I like that I got to look into a great career.  All the staff were great and appreciate very much the degree of time.”

- “I liked learning about the actual job and what you actually do and learn on the job.”

- “I liked doing the group activities like the Logos for communication and the moon challenge for group discussions on how to fix a problem.  I am really thankful for the time you have shared with me to give me the chance to have a career, the respect and patience you showed while teaching and explaining and having a positive outlook for this program.”

- “(I liked) the trip to the different companies and different experiences a process technician or plant operator has and the different products made in the companies.  Overall, it was a great experience and great way to spend the summer; also, the program was a great way to meet new people and a possible career choice in the future.””

- “(I liked) the fact that we not only learned about PTEC stuff but also learned other valuable skills for the rest of my career.”

With the Department of Labor Community Based Job Training Grant, LMC PTEC will be able to offer tuition reimbursement after our students complete their courses. Additionally, we have been granted scholarship funds from our industry partners KinderMorgan, The Industrial Association Inc. of Contra Costa County, Chevron, ConocoPhillips & Praxair. These generous donations will help our students with financial need purchase books and other supplies for the certification.
