Process Technology ProgramIndustry:

Growing Your Company's Workforce
PTEC is a success because it is a public-private partnership. Without industry, education and government, we would not have been able to increase student enrollment so successfully within the past year. Within this section you can post job opportunities, find interns and become involved in PTEC through the Ambassador program, & a PTEC Scholarship program.

Why Your Company Should Participate in PTEC
All industrial manufacturers need process operators - not just the refining industry. That includes pharmaceutical, timber, chemical processing and energy generation, just to name a few. However, there are not enough trained workers in our local available workforce pool to supply every company's need for process operators. And at times, that shortage creates a frenetic game of musical chairs for employers. In a mad dash to snag the most recent PTEC graduates, who will be left out? Chemical? Pharmaceutical? Oil Processing?

The truth is no business sector should be left out. But in order to make sure that happens all manufacturers need to support PTEC. The oil refining industry is starting to feel the effects from having a workforce with an average age of 50, meaning half of all operators will retire in the next 10 years. A strong PTEC program will address future worker shortages and help provide diversity within your workplace.

What Your Colleagues Say About PTEC
See what local industry partners say about PTEC and how PTEC can help improve the local workforce and ensure their companies' futures.

Looking For A Few Good PTEC'ers?
If your company would like to post a job opening, just email it to the PTEC Director, William Cruz at wcruz@losmedanos.edu or fax it to us at (925) 427-1599 attention: LMC PTEC

Getting The Message Out
For your company to participate successfully in PTEC, it will mean doing more than writing a check, providing a scholarship or hiring PTEC graduates. It means telling local community members your story. People who live in your community should know what your company does and the difference it makes in their lives. They should know about your need for more process operators to avoid a worker shortage. They should know you are willing to invest in them so you can hire locally when possible. And they should know that process operators make an average starting annual salary of nearly $45,000 and the life the career can provide.

PTEC Ambassadors Spread Goodwill
The PTEC Ambassador program allows local chemical company employees the opportunity to talk to high school students about what they are taught in the classroom and how it can be used in the workplace.

PTEC Scholarship Programs
PTEC Scholarship Programs allow industry partners to invest in local high school students and mid-career adults in order to improve the local workforce. Providing scholarships increase the chances that well-trained process operators will be there when your company needs them most. If your company would like to start a PTEC Scholarship, please contact the LMC Foundation . If you would like to view the current scholarship programs, please click here.

This program gives your company the chance to let high school students interested in a career in the oil refining industry know what courses and skills they need to enter into the PTEC degree program and obtain a career in process technology. If your company would like to participate in the PTEC Ambassador program and make presentations to local high school classes and participate in other community events, please contact the PTEC Director, William Cruz at 925-439-2181 X 3775 or wcruz@losmedanos.edu.
