Talking To Your Students About PTEC
Sometimes it can be difficult to show students that what's taught in the classroom is relevant to their future careers. English, math, chemistry and other subjects can be tied into process technology and what goes on behind the gates of an oil refinery or a chemical plant.
Most kids don't know that chemical plants produce and process chemicals that are used to make almost everything around them - the tires on their parents' cars, the CDs they listen to and the computers they use to surf the Internet. They're also unaware that the average process operator starts at almost $45,000 and raises to $65,000 within 30 months.
What Is PTEC?
PTEC (Process Technology) is the standardized curriculum for a 33 unit Certificate of Achievement or a 60 unit Associate of Science Degree that prepares people to work as process technology operators in the petro-chemical industry.

What Your Students Can Do With A PTEC Degree
In our local area, a PTEC degree can land your students jobs as process operators in the oil refinery. A PTEC degree can also prepare them to work in the chemical industry and pharmaceutical industries as well as for other heavy industrial manufacturers. Once they get a PTEC degree and become a process operator, their career options are open. Your students can become a laboratory technician or a safety technician or work in ordering and shipping, training or quality control. Many companies will pay for their education if they want to continue with college.
