The travel and tourism industry is an exciting and dynamic multi-billion dollar industry. Advances in information, communication and transportation technology have resulted in the phenomenal growth of the travel and tourism industry. It is the third largest retail industry in the United States. It is one of the top three industries in almost every state in the United States. It employs 11% of the workforce in the United States and the world. It continues to recruit new employees at a tremendous pace given the service and people-oriented nature of the industry.

The travel industry provides excellent employment opportunities in travel agencies, Internet travel organizations, home-based travel businesses, tour companies, airlines, cruise lines, etc. As the industry matures and expands, specialization has become necessary in areas such as Cruises, Special Interest Travel, Adventure Travel, Group Travel, Family Travel and in destinations such as Hawaii, South Pacific, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia etc. Simultaneously, it has become essential for working travel professionals to continuously develop and sharpen their skills and update their expertise in this dynamic industry.

The Center for Travel Marketing offers courses leading to certification for new entrants to the travel industry; continuing education and industry certification courses for industry employees; and customized training and employment assistance to organizations in the travel industry.
