Advancement Via Individual Determination

AVID is a transfer preparation program that targets students who are focused on transfer and serious about college success.  Through the AVID course (EDUC 10) and regular meetings with the AVID counselor, students will develop their academic skills and receive in-depth support with the transfer process. 

Benefits of AVID:

• AVID satisfies a CSU transfer requirement

• AVID teaches students the skills to succeed in a four-year school

• AVID connects key services like counseling and financial aid to the classroom

• AVID students meet regularly with the AVID Counselor to plan their educational path

• AVID students will be part of a community of students on track for transfer

• AVID bridges high school, Los Medanos College, and four-year schools

• AVID students take field trips to four-year schools such as UC Berkeley and UC Davis

• AVID students will get specific support with exploring/choosing majors, careers and potential transfer schools

• AVID supports students through first-year college culture shock
