The English Assessment consists of two parts; Reading Comprehension and Sentence Skills

Reading Comprehension Test

The reading comprehension test is designed to measure how well you understand what you read. It contains 20 questions. Some questions ask you to interpret and draw conclusions from passages you have read. Other questions ask you to decide how two
sentences are related.

Sentence Skills Test

There are 20 Sentence Skills questions of two types.

• Questions that ask you to choose the most appropriate word or phrase to substitute for the underlined portion of the sentence.
• Questions that ask you to rewrite a sentence according to the criteria shown while maintaining essentially the same meaning as the original sentence.

We strongly recommend that you review carefully the Reading and Sentence Skills portions of the Accuplacer Sample Questions and the study guide and pre-test below prior to taking your assessment test.
