The Appliance Service Technology program offers five training options:

Combine 1&2 to finish in 11 months.

  1. Appliance Technician I certificate: prepares students for entry-level positions as appliance installers or shop technician trainees. (Night Class)
  2. Appliance Technician II certificate: prepares students for entry-level positions in the appliance service field, with sufficient background for transition to field technician. (Day Class)
  3. Students can also receive an AS Degree in Appliance Service Technology. Students must complete 19-39 units of specified Appliance courses in addition to the requirements defined in the AS requirements section of the LMC Catalog.
  4. Students can obtain certification in refrigeration, laundry and cooking products. These classes are designed for a beginning service technician new to the industry looking for entry level training or the experienced technician looking to upgrade their knowledge of a particular product category.

Technician I

Primarily an evening program, the Technician I option prepares students for entry-level positions as appliance installers or shop technician trainees. Students must complete 18.5-37.5 units of specified Appliance courses and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Upon successful completion, students will also receive EPA certification. Required classes include:

APPLI 14 Advanced Electrical Appliances Tech I, 3 units
APPLI 23 Basic Refrigeration Tech I, 3 units
APPLI 24 Advanced Refrigeration Tech I, 3 units
APPLI 21 Electrical Appliances Shop Practice, 1 Unit
APPLI 31 Gas Appliance and Refrigeration Shop Practice, 1 Unit
APPLI 37 Appliance Shop Practice-Intermediate, 1 Unit
APPLI 38 Appliance Shop Practice-Advanced, 1 Unit
APPLI 46 Principle and repair of Microwave Ovens, .5 Unit
ACREF 45 Central Heating and Cooling Troubleshooting, 2 Units

Technician II

Primarily a day program, the Technician II option prepares students for entry-level positions in the appliance service field, with sufficient background to support a rapid transition to the field technician level. Students must complete 19-39 units of specified Appliance courses and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Upon successful completion, students will also receive EPA certification. Required classes include:

APPLI 16 Electrical Appliances II, 4 Units
APPLI 20 Electrical Appliances Shop Practice, 5 Units
APPLI 25 Refrigeration I, 4 Units
APPLI 26 Refrigeration II, 4 Units
APPLI 30 Gas Appliance and Refrigeration Shop Practice, 5 Units
APPLI 35 Appliance Shop Practice-Intermediate, 5 Units

APPLI 36 Appliance Shop Practice-Advanced, 5 Unit

**APPLI 99 may be used to satisfy some courses with the approval of an instructor.

Skills Certificate in HVACR

Take all 6 ACREF classes and 1 of the following, APPLI-023, 024, 025, 026 and earn your skills certificate in 3 regular semesters and 1 summer semester.
