Library Studies 14—Introduction to Library Resources............. 1 unit

Course Description:
Offered every semester, Introduction to Library Resources is a 1 unit course designed to teach you how to use libraries more effectively and to help familiarize you specifically with the various library resources available to you in the Los Medanos College Library. The skills you acquire will help you in working on classroom assignments as well as in researching topics of personal interest.

Unit 4.......... Periodicals and Newspapers

How the Course Works: The course is taught in a self-paced manner. This means that there will be no regularly scheduled class sessions. Instead, you will work at your own speed and at times which are convenient to your schedule. The reference librarian stationed at the Reference Desk on the first floor of the library will be available to assist you with any questions or difficulties you may have with the assignments. Your assignments will be corrected and graded by the librarian in charge of the course. Course may be taken for grade or credit/no credit.

Library Studies 17—Introduction to Internet Information Resources
Course Description: This introductory short-term course is designed for individuals with little or no experience using the Internet. The course will provide the basic knowledge and skills needed to make effective use of information resources available via the Internet. The course will be of particular value to students needing to do Internet research for course assignments. Class entails nine hours of instruction.

Course Unit Value: .5 unit credit.

Library Studies 18 — Advanced Search Techniques and Strategies
Course Description: This short-term course is designed for individuals who may already have some experience using the Internet. The course will cover more advanced search techniques and strategies for locating information resources available on the Internet. Among the topics covered will be the use of various features of Internet Web browsers such as Netscape and Internet Explorer, an in-depth comparison of Internet search engines and an exploration of sites which provide subject and discipline-based information resources. Students interested in learning how to more effectively and efficiently search the Internet for class assignments or topics of personal interest will find this course of particular value.

Course Unit Value: .5 unit credit.
