Frequently asked questions about the Library

The library building is located on the south side of Parking Lot A. See this map for directions from on-campus.

The first floor houses the circulating, reference and reserve (textbook) collections, current and back issues of magazines, periodicals, newspapers and audiovisual collections (CD, DVD and VHS). The reference and circulation desks, group study rooms, the information commons and the copy room are also on the first floor.

The second floor contains the viewing stations, the two classrooms/computer labs, the microfilm collection (with microfilm viewers), the IT Help Desk (for equipment checkout and Student IDs), alternate media services and technology.

Your Library Card is your Student ID Card, which you can apply for on the second floor at the Media Services Desk. Please have your schedule of classes printout from Admissions with you to verify that you are currently enrolled, as well as a photo ID.

Steps to Print from your Laptop to the Printer on the 1st Floor of the LMC Library

  • Click on the file you wish to print.
  • Click the Open button.

  • In the Enter User ID: field, type your first name or other word that you can remember.
  • Click the Next button.
  •  Wait while your document is uploaded.

  • Click the Print button.
  • Go into the Printer Room.
  • Put your print card into the black card reader next to the computer monitor.
  • Type your first name or whatever other word you entered in Step 8.
  • Click on the name of your document that you wish to print.
  • Click on the Print Selected button.
  • Retrieve your document from the printer.

 

There are two copy machines in the Print & Copy Room on the first floor of the LMC Library. They accept both vending cards and cash. It costs 15 cents to print a copy using cash, but only 10 cents if you use a vending card.
No. The library is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
The Reference Librarian at the Reference Desk on the first floor will assist you with any questions you may have regarding library materials and services.
Access to the online Library Catalog is available from any computer with Internet access. A link to the LMC Library Catalog is located on the menu bar going down the left side of all Library Web pages.
The LMC Stacks, used as a location for entries in the online catalog, refers to the Circulating Book Collection on the first floor.
You can check out up to five books at a time. The loan period is three weeks. You can renew books twice for an additional two-week period each renewal.
Search the Online Catalog to see if your textbook has been placed in the Reserve Collection. The Reserve Collection is behind the Circulation Desk on the first floor.
No. Magazines are restricted to library use only. A copy machine is available on the first floor so that you can make copies of articles.
I am looking for a video or a CD.
Streaming videos collections may be viewed on any computer on campus by clicking on the Electronic Resources link and then the Video link. Remote users must login with a student or employee ID.Video (VHS and DVD) and audio media are stored behind the Circulation Desk on the first floor. You can watch videos at the viewing stations on the second floor, and watch DVDs or listen to CDs using any computer terminals.
The back of the first floor has carrels for quiet study. You might also consider booking a study room.
We have five group study rooms on the first floor, seating from four to twelve. You can book them in advance by checking with a staff member at the Circulation Desk on the first floor. Room may be reserved for up to four hours a day, up to a maximum of eight hours a week. The library holds rooms for 10 minutes after the reservation time. After that, the room may be reserved by other students.

Yes. All computers in the Library have Internet access.

Do you have wireless access in the library?

Wireless access is available for students, employees and official guests only. The public is welcome to use Internet access on the library computers.

  • Open your wireless settings on your laptop, tablet or smartphone and select "LMC Student".
  • To connect, open a browser on your laptop, tablet or smartphone, and log in using your InSite/WebAdvisor ID and password.
  • The connection will timeout after 60 minutes of inactivity (or less during high traffic periods.)
  • Please call the District IT helpdesk (925) 229-1000 ext. 6888 if you are having trouble connecting. They can assist with most common devices.
Yes, you can! To use these databases from off campus you will be asked to enter your last name and 7-digit student/employee ID number. Your student ID number, e.g., 0012345, is included in your class schedule or receipt. If you encounter any problems, contact the Reference Librarian at 925-473-7575.
How much are overdue fines?
The late fine for three week circulating books is 25 cents per day, per book with a maximum fine of $50 per book. The late fine for reserve books is $1 per hour for 2 and 3 hour loan books. It is $1 per day for books with a 1 day, 3 day and 7 day circulation period.

 

A hold may be placed on a student’s record whenever that student has failed to pay any debt owed to the college or has failed to return a library book or other college property or equipment. Students with holds will not be allowed to register, receive transcripts, receive certificates or degrees, and/or receive other services related to student records. The hold will be removed once the student has cleared the obligation with the college. Effective with the start of each term, official transcripts will not be processed for students who have an outstanding debt for the current term.

How can I renew a book online?

Click on the Library Catalog link: http://alice.dvc.edu/search~S3

Click on the Login link.

Type your last name and student or employee ID number.

Select the box next to the item you wish to renew.

Click the Renew link.

How can I request a book from DVC or CCC?

Find the library item that you wish to request in the Library Catalog.

Click on the Request/Hold link at the top of the record.

Type your last name and student or employee ID number.

Select the library where you would like to pick the item up.

Click the Submit link.
