Math Lab Tutoring
Interested in becoming a Tutor?
Tutors are paid $9.74/hour. We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2011 .
Our tutors work in the varying Math Lab facilities and classrooms. Tutors may be staffed in the Computer Math Lab for courses such as Math 7, 12, 25, & 30 (ie, Arithmetic to Intermediate Algebra) for their computer aided portion (Carnegie & MyMathLab). Also, with enough training and Math under your belt, you can also tutor through the Tutoring Lab. New tutors must attend the two day pre-semester campus wide paid tutor training, and monthly tutor meetings in the Math Lab.
You must meet the minimum requirements:
- Completion of Math 40 (or its equivalent) with above average grades earned to be in in-class tutor or Math 50 to be eligible to work in the Tutoring Lab.
- Be enrolled in atleast 6 units at LMC.
- Recommendations from your Math Instructors, or a Math Lab Coordinator.
- Ability to lead a student through a problem by asking them questions rather than telling them the answer.
- Drive to work with and help the LMC diverse student population.
- Ability to work well with students and faculty.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Responsible, mature, patient, reliable, productive.
- Preference will be given to individuals who have attended or are attending Tutor Training at the Pittsburg Campus in addition to those familiar with MyMathLab and Carnegie Software, and courses completed from Math 40 and beyond.
